Upper Slaughter is known as a doubly Thankful Village. 36 men in the First and Second World Wars went off to fight. All 36 came home. There is a plaque in the Church of St James commemorating the brave 36.It is thought that there are at most only 32 Thankful Villages in the UK.
Another Thankful Village in the Cotswolds is Coln St. Rogers near Bibury.
