Small road in Bisley
The Slad Valley has become immortalised by the famous author Laurie Lee in his classic novel‘Cider with Rosie’.
Many of the locations in the book can be seen today. The tiny village of Slad centres around the Woolpack Inn – where you can see the seat where Lee used to sit - and the church where Laurie Lee is now buried. A stained glass window commemorates this most famous author.
An Historic building hidden in a beautiful Cotswold Valley. A Unique and amazing Grade1 listed Victorian Gothic nouse. An unfinished masterpiece by a local architect Benjamin Bucknall from Rodborough.. The building was started in 1857, but stopped abruptly in the late 1860's so floors and ceilings are missing, walls not plastered and windows unglazed. All the secrets of construction are visible to all visitors.
We loved the tour. A private booked tour around Owlpen Manor was fascinating. The homemade ice cream at Jolly Nice Farm Shop was astounding.
